Steve Bavington - YMCA
The Chris Allen Podcast
Saturday, 22 June 2024 - 18 minutes
2024 sees the 180th anniversary of the YMCA (Young Men's Christian Association) since its founding in London in 1844, exactly 100 years to the day before the D-Day landings.
In the Black Country, YMCA has been operational since 1888, first in West Bromwich, our Carter's Green site having been there since 1960.
In this episode, Black Country Chief Executive Steve Bavington joins Chris Allen and Debbie Huxton to talk about the long history of the organisation - seeking to humanise all stigmatised and vulnerable people, through two World Wars as well as the day to day support they continue to offer.
The organisation has remained true to its Christian roots, and as Steve explains, THAT song is a blessing to the organisation, raising its profile as a charity.
