Black Country Rock Against Racism was founded by Kieran Bott in August 2024 in response to the riots and increased Far-Right presence across the UK at that time. Initially envisioning a single concert that celebrated community and diversity in the face of the division and hatred that was being widely circulated at the time, an overwhelming interest from bands and musicians, music fans, local community figures and activists made it clear that this was the start of a movement rather than a one-off event. Follow up events for 2025 featuring input from a wider network of people across the Black Country are currently in the works. We have formed partnerships with Wolverhampton City of Sanctuary and the Refugee and Migrants Centre, who will each receive 50% of the funds raised once venue costs have been covered. Future events will continue benefiting these organisations and perhaps others depending on our capacity. Our ultimate aim is to bring musicians and music fans together

The Rock Against Racism concert will be taking place at the Newhampton Arts Centre on 7th December at 18:30. Abhey Aneja, Bansal Electrics, Blanco Negra, Gypsy Jack, Eyes Peeled and Basement Orphans are on the line up along with speakers from Wolverhampton City of Sanctuary, the Refugee and Migrant Centre, Black Country Stand Up to Racism, Hope Projects, and local playwright Jefny Ashcroft. The evening will begin with a short lecture/presentation from Kieran Bott on the history of Rock Against Racism and its relevance today. The listed organisations will have stalls at the event where people can donate to them directly, learn how to volunteer or how to assist in other ways. Tickets are £6.50 standard or £5.00 for concessions.

Kieran Bott is a political and social historian based at the University of Wolverhampton, currently writing his PhD thesis on the Political Engagements of Alternative Rock Music and Subcultures in the United States and United Kingdom c. 1975-1999. He is also a multi-instrumentalist playing in several Walsall and Wolverhampton-based bands, a solo artist, the chair of Walsall’s Karma Music Collective and the founder of the Mellow Raccoon collective record label.
