Jazz at the NAC

More Information (WCR FM is not responsible for external websites)

NAC offers an exciting new platform for this next generation of jazz performers, all of them students at Royal Birmingham Conservatoire. Join them in our super-relaxed, intimate café setting, bringing some zest, joy and creativity into the fourth Sunday of the month! Welcome to Café Spotlight…

Giulia Marro is a jazz clarinettist and vocalist from Northern Ireland, now based in Birmingham as she studies at the Conservatoire – and will bring thrilling music of a vintage rarely experienced by NAC regulars.

Over the past three years, Giulia has led her own bands around the West Midlands and Belfast performing music of the swing era in popular jazz venues such as The Spotted Dog, Scott’s Jazz Club, 1000 Trades and many more.

Giulia’s sound is characterised by her warm tone and fast vibrato typical of the 1920s – 40s and her inspirations include Barney Bigard, Jimmy Hamilton, Edmond Hall and others.

For this gig, Giulia will bring her trio which features two of the best rhythm section players in Birmingham, sensational pianist Tom Ward and Café Spotlight favourite Ben Love on bass. This trio plays original music and arrangements of their favourite tunes, taking inspiration from Jimmy Giuffre, Duke Ellington and many more.
